Meeting the Padma Shri, Ramon magsaysay Dr Prakash Amte

Last weekend I got the chance to interact with Dr Prakash Amte, the world renowned social worker and Ramon Magsasay awardee.

Project Gyan was invited to the Lok Biradari Prakalp - India at Hemalkasa run by Dr Prakash Amte. We conducted a live 4.5 hour program at the Hemalkasa for 200 students and I have to say Hemalkasa was not at all what I expected. Its truly a different world within itself. Lok Biradari Prakalp is first of all a mini-village with a residential school for tribal students, a fully equipped hospital and an animal rescue shelter. The students have a different confidence when you interact with them and how they greet you. The school also has its own bank to teach students about financial literacy. Apart from that the students also have a great practical exposure and means to even grow. The best part is that the people there really care about those children and are receptive to bringing changes and new things for the students.

The best thing that I saw there was what I think most Indians are famous for "Jugad" or making the best things out of waste in every single sphere. They were seventh grade students and intuitively during the session when we needed a dropper, they modified straws to create their droppers.

Our session with the students was a huge huge success. Looking forward to continued collaboration with Lok Biradari Prakalp!!

PS: I also demonstrated and showed him my project that is from his field which he absolutely loved.

PS: This is a call to all NGOs and interested people, if you want to join hands with Project Gyan, dm me, if you read this post until here(which you obviously did) then we should definitely work together.

Here are a few pictures...

Me explaining my project to Dr Amte (unrelated to Project Gyan)

Me with Dr Amte discussing with him before the session

Me breaking the ice (Did you get the pun? 🤣)

The students before the session thinking this is going to be a normal science class

The students during the session realising this is different! this is Project Gyan!
